Explorers of a New World, Cre8tus – Project Artist (2008)
Explorers of a New World was a visual arts project collaborating with a performance artist Steve Cowley, in partnership with Creative Partnerships Coventry and a primary school in Coventry. It involved eighty children aged 7 – 9 who were inspired to explore nature through visual arts and performance after a field trip to a nature reserve. Working in partnership with Steve Cowley, we proposed the children imagine their urban environment far in the future—totally overrun by wild nature where humans had ceased to exist.
After a period of development working in individual groups, children collaborated to create an outside interactive sculpture, which could be used to stage a performance (dance and music) in the school grounds; communicating the environmental impact (on urban areas) of humans leaving the planet.
